ORANJESTAD — Aruba Birdlife Conservation (ABC) says Aruba’s current tourism development model has reached its limits and that the government should move toward a broader, more realistic and sustainable approach.
According to ABC, even before recent figures were published by Amigoe, the organization had already been receiving considerable input pointing in the same direction. ABC says AHATA’s reaction to the national tourism transformation policy further reinforces its view that the long-standing tourism growth model is no longer adequate.
The organization is calling on the government to avoid relying mainly on popular positions and instead bring together a broad team of experts to carry out a comprehensive analysis.
ABC says any new model should take into account the well-being of residents, the visitor experience and the protection of nature. It is advocating a holistic and sustainable approach that balances the economy, quality of life and the environment.
