ORANJESTAD — Chania Fernandes Pedra’s family has called a press conference for Monday, October 5, at 10 a.m. at J.G. Emanstraat 29. It plans to present hearing recordings that it says support its complaints about the criminal proceedings.

In the invitation, the family accuses the Public Prosecutor’s Office of providing false information about the availability of two Curaçao lawyers. It also questions how legal representation was arranged and asks Parliament to promote the recording and preservation of all hearings. These are the family’s allegations and have not yet been independently verified.

The announcement follows the hearing on Friday, October 2. As Noticiacla reported, the judge stated that Fernandes Pedra had again rejected a specialist lawyer willing to represent her and warned that the proceedings could not be postponed indefinitely.

The judge denied conditional release and scheduled the next hearing for November 4 at 1:30 p.m. The case concerns the January 4 crash on L.G. Smith Boulevard in which two pedestrians died. The criminal charges still have to be proven in court.
