Wyatt Ras: Independent analysis must determine HOH’s funding shortfall

ORANJESTAD — The Government of Aruba, UO AZV and SZA/HOH have agreed to commission an independent financial review of Horacio Oduber Hospital to establish objectively how much funding the hospital requires and what measures are needed to safeguard continuity of hospital care.

The move follows concerns raised by SZA/HOH with the government since July 2026 regarding the hospital's financial position. In recent weeks, healthcare professionals, medical organizations and unions have also voiced concerns about financial pressure and its possible impact on patient care.

According to the government, the independent assessment must provide verifiable information on SZA/HOH's financial situation. Its findings will serve as the basis for the government, AZV and the hospital to determine funding needs and take the necessary decisions.

The minister responsible for Public Health stressed that patient care must not be compromised during the process. The government says continuity and quality of hospital care must remain guaranteed while the hospital's financial position is being assessed.
