ReD: Circular economy policy is not a new government initiative

ORANJESTAD – Political party Red Democratico (ReD) says Aruba's circular economy policy is not a new initiative but a strategy that was already developed, formally adopted, and handed over to the current government by former Minister of Sustainable Development Rudy Lampe.

According to ReD, the policy focuses on reducing waste, promoting reuse and recycling, and making more sustainable use of resources. The party also noted that the ban on single-use supermarket plastic bags was part of that broader vision.

ReD questioned whether the current government is presenting an existing policy as its own initiative instead of acknowledging that the framework had already been established by the previous administration.

The party argues that a circular economy should be treated as a long-term national policy rather than the project of a single government. ReD is calling for greater transparency and for the government to continue implementing the existing policy instead of "reinventing the wheel."
