ORANJESTAD – A 16-year-old boy died Wednesday night after a shooting in the parking lot of Nadi Croes/Crismo Angela Stadium in Santa Cruz.
According to the Aruba Police Force, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:55 p.m., together with an ambulance, after reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and unresponsive. Paramedics provided emergency treatment before transporting him to the hospital under maximum priority, while police closed several roads to speed up the ambulance's route. The victim later died from his injuries.
The victim has been identified as Rayshon E. Kelly, born in Aruba on October 1, 2009.
Preliminary information indicates that the teenager was riding a scooter with another person when a car carrying three men allegedly opened fire. Kelly was struck by the gunfire.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Forensic Technical Department have launched an extensive investigation. Victim Support Services have also been notified to assist those affected.
The Aruba Police Force extended its condolences to the victim's family and is asking anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact the anonymous police tip line at 11141.
The investigation remains ongoing.
