15 injured after two trams collide on Rotterdam's Erasmus Bridge

ROTTERDAM – At least 15 people were injured after two trams collided on Rotterdam's Erasmus Bridge, leaving one person seriously injured. Five victims were taken to hospital, while the others were treated at the scene.

The crash happened around 11:10 a.m. when a stationary tram was struck from behind by another tram traveling in the same direction. The impact caused one of the trams to derail.

The seriously injured victim was trapped inside the tram but was later rescued by emergency crews.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collision. Public transport operator RET said it was shocked by the incident and confirmed that its trams are equipped with an automatic emergency stop system if the driver loses control.

The Erasmus Bridge was closed to traffic following the accident, and tram services across the bridge were suspended.
