Andy Burnham elected Labour leader, set to become UK prime minister

LONDON – Andy Burnham has been elected the new leader of the Labour Party and will officially become the United Kingdom's prime minister on Monday after Keir Starmer submits his resignation to King Charles. Burnham won overwhelming backing from Labour MPs and pledged to reunite the party while restoring voters' confidence.
The leadership change follows Starmer's resignation after Labour's popularity declined sharply and the party suffered heavy losses in recent local elections. Burnham, the former mayor of Manchester, is expected to lead Labour into the next general election in 2029 and hopes to halt the rise of Nigel Farage's Reform UK.
