ORANJESTAD — Restoration of the historic John G. Eman building, formerly the Aruba Bank building on Caya G.F. Betico Croes, officially began on October 14. Minister Geoffrey Wever, Prime Minister Mike Eman and Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba representative Petra Davis marked the start.
The building will become a multifunctional space with offices for CBS and SER, an apartment and a hospitality venue with a terrace, while preserving its historic and architectural value.
The project follows a letter of intent signed in 2024 and the building’s transfer to Monumentenfonds in 2025. It forms part of plans to revitalize downtown Oranjestad.
“Revitalizing Oranjestad is not just about restoring buildings. It is about creating economic activity and new opportunities,” Wever said.
The statement does not specify the total cost or completion date.
