ORANJESTAD — An Aruba Airlines aircraft carrying 180 passengers bound for Guyana was grounded in Aruba on Monday after a bird strike during takeoff in Cuba damaged its nose.

The aircraft continued to Aruba for a scheduled refuelling stop. Following an inspection, aviation authority DCA refused permission for another takeoff. According to 24ora, a flight without passengers to the United States for repairs was also denied.

The passengers, including children and elderly people, could not enter Aruba because they lacked the required documents. CMO, the Red Cross and airport staff provided 180 camp beds, bedding, pillows and hygiene supplies.

At the time of publication, it remained unclear when the passengers could continue to Guyana. Aruba Airlines was exploring replacement transport and repair options. Picture courtesy of 24ora.com
