ORANJESTAD — Glenbert Croes, the son of Betico Croes, has stated in a recent Facebook post that he is convinced there was a plan to eliminate his father both politically and physically. His statement comes amid the controversy over former Queen Beatrix’s notes about Betico and Aruba’s struggle for Status Aparte.
“For me, there is no doubt that there was an agenda and a plan to get rid of Betico Croes, both politically and physically,” Croes wrote. The message appears in Papiamento and Dutch, accompanied by a photograph of him.
The statement is a serious allegation by a son of the leader of the struggle for Status Aparte. In the shared post, however, Croes provides no documents or other evidence supporting the claim and does not identify who allegedly stood behind the plan.
As Noticiacla previously reported, the controversy arose following the publication of historical research into the Dutch Royal House. According to the research cited in that report, Beatrix wrote in 1983: “Tijd winnen. Hij zal eens wegvallen. Dat afwachten.” The word “wegvallen” could refer to Betico ceasing to be a political factor; the published context does not establish that it referred to his death. noticiacla.com
MEP leader Evelyn Wever-Croes previously requested clarification from the Kingdom Government and the release of relevant documents. She stressed that her request sought to prevent speculation and obtain an official explanation.
Glenbert Croes’s post now brings the position of an immediate family member into the debate. His conviction that there was a plan to eliminate his father remains his allegation; the material shared does not establish a proven connection between Beatrix’s note and events in Betico’s life.
