ORANJESTAD – Parliamentarian Jennifer Arends-Reyes recently participated in the Youth Parliament Camp, where she spoke with young participants about Parliament, leadership and the importance of civic engagement.
Arends-Reyes stressed that Parliament should not be seen as something distant from young people’s daily lives. She said young people should feel that they have a place, a voice and an opportunity to contribute to Aruba’s future.
Participants were able to ask questions, share ideas and learn more about how parliamentary work functions. According to Arends-Reyes, participation in democracy does not begin only when someone reaches voting age, but when young people become interested, ask questions and get involved in their communities.
