Pieters(PPA): More than a year later, police still without body cameras

ORANJESTAD – PPA parliamentarian Eduard Pieters is questioning why the government has still not introduced body and dashboard cameras for the Aruba Police Force, more than a year after Parliament unanimously approved a motion calling for funding for the technology.

Speaking on the program Enfoke, Pieters recalled that all parliamentary factions supported the motion in March 2025. He said PPA later proposed using additional revenue from the government's legalization program to finance the project, but implementation still did not follow.

According to Pieters, PPA visited the police force and saw how the technology works. He argues that body and dashboard cameras can protect both officers and citizens, document police interventions and provide evidence following incidents, pursuits and accidents.

The government previously indicated that a pilot project would begin in July 2025, but according to Pieters, officers have still not received the cameras.

For Pieters, the issue goes beyond body cameras. He is questioning why unanimously approved parliamentary decisions remain unimplemented and whether the government is sufficiently respecting Parliament's constitutional role.
