DVG takes lead in Aruba's mental health policy

ORANJESTAD – The management and coordination of mental health and addiction care in Aruba will be structurally incorporated into the Department of Public Health (DVG). As part of the change, the chairmanship of the GGZ Steering Committee will be transferred from the Ministry of Health to DVG.

The move is intended to ensure greater continuity and firmly embed mental health policy within Aruba's public health system, independently of political changes. DVG will assume responsibility for chairing the GGZ Steering Committee and coordinating the different organizations involved in the care system.

The new structure aims to strengthen cooperation and create a more integrated system connecting prevention, early detection, treatment, recovery and social reintegration.

The overall goal is to ensure policy continuity and develop a sustainable and accessible mental health system that places patients' well-being at the center of care.
