DVG: Court-ordered addiction patients to receive specialized treatment in Curaçao

ORANJESTAD – Aruba has officially launched a new program that will allow people with severe addiction problems who are under, or will be placed under, a court order to receive specialized residential treatment at Stichting Brasami in Curaçao.

The initiative follows the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Government of Aruba and Stichting Brasami and fills an important gap, as this type of mandatory residential addiction treatment is not currently available on the island.

The program is intended only for a specific group of patients whose cases require compulsory intensive treatment. Before admission, each case will be evaluated by a specialized assessment committee.

Treatment at Brasami lasts six months and consists of four phases: detoxification, stabilization, intensive therapy and preparation for reintegration. The final reintegration phase will continue in Aruba with support from local care providers.

Preparatory meetings involving health care and justice agencies were held to coordinate procedures and responsibilities, ensuring a seamless treatment pathway between Aruba and Curaçao.

According to Aruba's Department of Public Health, the program represents an important step toward strengthening addiction care and providing vulnerable patients with a genuine opportunity for recovery.
