Aruba Government expands addiction care through Brasami partnership

ORANJESTAD – The Government of Aruba has signed a cooperation agreement with Stichting Brasami of Curaçao to expand access to specialized residential treatment for people with severe addiction problems. According to Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care and Addiction Management Melvin Wyatt-Ras, this type of treatment is currently unavailable in Aruba.

The agreement is aimed at individuals who require intensive treatment within the framework of mandatory care in a structured therapeutic environment. Not everyone with an addiction will qualify. Each case will be assessed by a specialized committee, while the final decision rests with the court.

Minister Wyatt-Ras said the agreement strengthens Aruba's addiction care network and offers those in need a real opportunity for recovery and rehabilitation.

"With this agreement, we are strengthening the continuum of care for people facing serious addiction problems. When you help one person overcome addiction, you also help that person's family and the wider community," the minister said.

Representatives of Stichting Brasami welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to providing professional treatment and high-quality care.
