ORANJESTAD – According to the Official Gazette of Aruba, the Government of Aruba has officially introduced new limits on several additional charges linked to consumer loans. The regulation took effect on August 1, 2026, and focuses on protecting borrowers from excessive fees.

Under the new rules, lenders may charge no more than 2% per month on overdue payments. Consumers who repay their loans early can also be charged a maximum of 7.5% of the amount paid in advance.

Another key change is the introduction of an official cap on out-of-court debt collection costs, including reminder, administrative and collection fees. These charges must now follow the tariff used by the Joint Court of Justice.

The regulation forms part of Aruba's Consumer Credit legislation and is intended to provide clearer protections while preventing excessive costs for borrowers.
