Aruban Glen Andrew fulfills his parents' dream as airline captain

ORANJESTAD – Captain Glen Andrew, an Aruban born in 1976, recently shared a special milestone with his parents during American Airlines Flight AA2217 on August 3. For the first time, Gifton Andrew and Myra Andrew flew as passengers on an aircraft piloted by their own son as captain.

Andrew graduated from Colegio Arubano in 1997 before continuing his education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He earned his degree in Aeronautical Science in 2000.

He began his professional aviation career in 2003 with Republic Airways, a regional airline operating flights for major U.S. carriers including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. After years of experience and dedication, he was promoted to Captain at American Airlines in 2021.

Although Captain Andrew has previously operated the Miami-Aruba route, the August 3 flight carried special meaning. His parents were on board as they traveled to Miami to reunite with family and celebrate his father's 80th birthday on August 5.

According to family members and close friends, Gifton Andrew had dreamed for many years of one day flying on an aircraft piloted by his son. That dream became reality on this flight.

The Andrew family says the achievement reflects years of sacrifice, support, and perseverance. Despite his successful international aviation career, Captain Andrew is known for his humility and for never seeking recognition for his accomplishments.

His journey serves as an inspiration to many young Arubans, demonstrating how education, discipline, and perseverance can open doors to an international career, while also highlighting the importance of family and remembering the sacrifices that helped make a lifelong dream come true.
