WestJet resumes flights after strike affects Aruba for one day

ORANJESTAD – The WestJet cabin crew strike, which caused flight cancellations and delays over the weekend, also affected Aruba for one day. However, the labour dispute has now ended after the airline reached a tentative agreement with the union, allowing flight operations to gradually return to normal.

On Monday, Aruba was among the Caribbean destinations impacted by the disruption, as several flights between Canada and the island were delayed or cancelled. This created uncertainty for some tourists travelling to Aruba, as well as for visitors preparing to return to Canada.

WestJet confirmed that the tentative agreement has brought the strike to an end and that the airline is now repositioning aircraft and flight crews to restore its regular flight schedule. However, the carrier warned that it may take several more days before operations are fully back to normal.

For Aruba, the news comes as a relief, since Canada is an important tourism market for the island. With the strike now suspended, air connectivity is expected to normalize gradually, limiting the overall impact on visitor arrivals.

WestJet currently operates five weekly flights between Toronto and Aruba, with service on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
