Aruba remains a top beach destination despite sargassum season

ORANJESTAD – While many beaches across Florida and the Caribbean are experiencing heavy sargassum seaweed this summer, Aruba continues to stand out as one of the best destinations for cleaner beaches.

Experts explain that sargassum is a naturally occurring brown seaweed carried from the northern coast of Brazil through ocean currents into the Caribbean and Florida. When large amounts reach the shoreline, they can create unpleasant odors and reduce the beach experience.

South Florida, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Barbados, and parts of Jamaica are among the areas most affected. However, coastal experts note that conditions can vary greatly depending on which side of an island a beach is located, with leeward beaches generally receiving much less seaweed.

Aruba is highlighted as a favorable destination because many of its western beaches are less exposed to sargassum, making the island an attractive choice for visitors seeking clear waters and cleaner beaches.

Travelers are still encouraged to check local conditions with hotels before arrival, as weather and ocean currents can quickly change beach conditions.
