MEP: Opposition deserves equal treatment in Parliament

ORANJESTAD – MEP parliamentary faction has criticized Parliament President Marlon Sneek, arguing that requests submitted by the opposition are not being handled equally compared with those from coalition parties.

According to the faction, since January 2025 MEP has submitted 41 requests for public meetings and question hours, of which only 11 have been scheduled. MEP said Parliament belongs to the people, not the governing coalition, and argued that consistently failing to schedule opposition requests limits democratic oversight and debate.

Faction leader Evelyn Wever-Croes called for greater transparency, objective criteria and equal treatment for all parliamentary factions, stressing that a strong democracy must ensure every voice is heard.
