ORANJESTAD — SELIBON's interim director in Bonaire, Edsel Winklaar, has expressed optimism about potential cooperation between Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao on waste management and processing.
During Prime Minister Mike Eman's visit to SELIBON, Winklaar outlined Bonaire's waste collection, separation and export operations, including the shipment of certain materials, such as biomedical waste, to the Netherlands for processing.
The discussions explored a possible regional solution to shared waste management challenges, potentially reducing dependence on overseas processing.
However, such a project would require further examination of costs, maritime transportation and infrastructure. According to Winklaar, Bonaire is open to continuing discussions with Aruba, Curaçao and Dutch authorities.
