ORANJESTAD — Two Caribbean museums, the Saba Archaeological Center Foundation and the Sint Maarten National Heritage Foundation, are among 16 organizations awarded Museum Grants by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for cultural and historical heritage research.
In Saba, the funding will support research into improved collection management and preservation ahead of the planned opening of the Saba Heritage Center in 2029.
In Sint Maarten, the research will focus on slavery, emancipation, labor history and cultural heritage, making the island's history more accessible to the public.
The grants highlight opportunities for Caribbean institutions to access Dutch research funding, potentially benefiting the wider region, including Aruba.
