THE HAGUE — The Dutch Parliament debated the 2027 Kingdom budget, focusing on security in Aruba and the other Caribbean islands, poverty and living costs.
Amid geopolitical tensions in the region, VVD and JA21 proposed an additional €200,000 to strengthen crisis preparedness and strategic emergency supplies across the islands.
Lawmakers also debated €30 million in additional funding to reduce poverty and living expenses in Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. This allocation does not directly cover Aruba.
Disagreements remain over using poverty-reduction funding for infrastructure projects. State Secretary Eric van der Burg is scheduled to respond on October 8.
