ORANJESTAD — MEP parliamentarian drs. Shailiny Tromp-Lee has requested a meeting with the Minister of Labor to discuss several issues she says require clarity and follow-up within Aruba’s labor market.

In a letter to Labor Committee chairman Clifford Heyliger, Tromp-Lee asks him to facilitate the meeting. Among the main issues she wants discussed are the reorganization of DAO and DPL, including the impact on the functioning and services of both departments.

She also wants to address the current staffing situation at DAO and DPL, the challenges employees are facing and how these may affect public services.

Another key topic is the introduction of a minimum wage for young people, with Tromp-Lee seeking an update on its current status and the next steps toward implementation.

She is also requesting information on labor inspection and enforcement, including current capacity, actions already being taken and what further measures are needed to ensure compliance with labor legislation.

According to Tromp-Lee, a direct meeting with the minister could provide greater clarity, improve the exchange of information and help identify solutions for both workers and the public.
