ORANJESTAD — The MEP parliamentary group is asking the Minister of Public Health for clarification about the decision by the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) to make Afl. 50 million available to the Government at an annual interest rate of 3%.
According to MEP, that rate may be lower than returns SVB could potentially obtain through other investments. The party wants to know whether alternative investment options were compared and how much interest income SVB could potentially forgo through the transaction.
MEP is also asking who approved the decision, on what financial basis it was made, and what guarantees exist to protect the interests of insured persons and pensioners.
The parliamentary group stresses that transparency and accountability are essential when funds intended for social protection are involved.
