Tourist becomes Aruba’s 12th traffic fatality of 2026

ORANJESTAD — A tourist died and a driver remains in critical condition following a crash on Sasaki Road early Tuesday. The death is Aruba’s 12th traffic fatality of 2026.
Police received the report at 1:38 a.m. According to preliminary information, a grey Hyundai Accent left the road. Officers found two severely injured men inside; one was unresponsive.
Despite emergency medical assistance, American-born tourist Dwann Kaleid Gatewood could not be saved. A forensic doctor confirmed his death. The driver was rushed to hospital.
Traffic specialists and forensic police are investigating the crash. Victim support services assisted the family, and the Aruba Police Force expressed its condolences.
