OSLO — Norway’s government plans a temporary ban on AI-enabled glasses in certain public places amid concerns that people could be filmed or photographed without their knowledge.

The measure could apply to parks, shopping centres, childcare facilities, playgrounds, hospitals and changing rooms. Universities and colleges may also be included.

The temporary ban is intended to give the government time to study the technology’s privacy impact and develop permanent regulations. An expert group will advise authorities.

Norway is not seeking a total ban. Private use could remain permitted, while blind and visually impaired people may receive exemptions where the technology provides important assistance.
