Wilhelminastraat revitalization enters design phase
ORANJESTAD — The Government of Aruba has signed a contract with BK Consultant Civiel-Bouwkundig Advies Bureau N.V. to develop a comprehensive design for the revitalization of Wilhelminastraat and its surrounding area.
The agreement, signed on Friday, September 18, moves the project from the vision and selection stage into final design and technical preparation. Construction plans, technical documentation and, eventually, implementation will follow.
Infrastructure Minister Rene Herdé emphasized that the project continues a process of renewing downtown Oranjestad that began several years ago. According to Herdé, revitalization is not merely about appearance, but also about functional infrastructure, mobility, sustainability and preserving the street’s historic identity.
The project is a joint effort involving the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister. Its goal is to create a more accessible and attractive Wilhelminastraat while bringing greater activity, investment and vitality back to downtown Oranjestad.
