Minister Dowers represents Aruba at UN General Assembly

ORANJESTAD — Aruba’s Minister Dowers will form part of the official Kingdom of the Netherlands delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The delegation also includes Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, Curaçao Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Sint Maarten Minister Conner.

Dowers’ participation gives Aruba direct representation within the Kingdom delegation during international discussions covering artificial intelligence, climate, human rights, maritime security, cybercrime and humanitarian cooperation.

Prime Minister Jetten will be in New York from September 22 through 24 and will address the General Assembly on Thursday. He will also hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and government and participate in several side events.

Foreign Affairs Minister Berendsen will focus on maritime security, justice for Ukraine, the International Criminal Court, MH17 and the two-state solution. Justice and Security Minister Van Weel will sign the international Cybercrime Convention, intended to strengthen cooperation between countries.

Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Minister Sjoerdsma will attend meetings on humanitarian assistance, Sudan and cooperation with United Nations agencies.

Aruba’s participation alongside the other Kingdom countries provides the island with an opportunity to contribute to international dialogue on issues that may also have direct consequences for the Caribbean.
