WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao could receive additional electricity support from the 2Bays gas plant if the facility can be brought back into operation as planned.
Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas said using Aggreko generators is currently not considered a financially responsible option because it would significantly increase electricity generation costs, which could ultimately be passed on to consumers.
According to Pisas, 2Bays is making efforts to make the gas plant operational again. The facility could provide support during critical electricity shortages, while additional capacity at the Isla site could become available by the end of the year if plans remain on track.
Pisas apologized to the community for the current electricity problems and called for understanding for Aqualectra employees working to restore the situation while residents face scheduled power switching every three hours.
He also urged residents to prepare better for similar situations in the future, including considering equipment powered by solar energy.
