Infantino apologizes, and FIFA keeps him as president

ZURICH – Gianni Infantino will remain FIFA president after receiving the backing of FIFA officials during an emergency meeting in Rabat, Morocco. The meeting was called following heavy criticism of his proposal to sell investment shares linked to the FIFA World Cup.

Despite criticism from within FIFA itself, the organization's leadership reaffirmed its confidence in Infantino.

FIFA also sent a formal apology to its 211 member associations for mistakes made in the investment proposal. In the letter, FIFA promised that similar errors would not happen again while stressing that attacks on the organization's integrity would not be accepted.

The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), however, said the apology does not change its position. The federation will discuss the letter with UEFA and other European associations but continues to stand by its criticism of Infantino's leadership.
