Aruba to fine supermarkets for price violations

ORANJESTAD – Beginning August 15, 2026, the Government of Aruba will officially begin enforcing the Price Ordinance, with the goal of ensuring that all businesses comply with the maximum prices for basic grocery items.

The Department of Economic Affairs, Commerce and Industry (DEACI) will oversee enforcement by checking that essential products are not sold above the government-approved maximum prices and that all supermarket items clearly display their prices.

Under the updated Price Ordinance, supermarkets and major distributors that fail to comply with the maximum prices or proper price labeling may face administrative sanctions, including a penalty order (Last Onder Dwangsom) or a fine.

DEACI inspectors will carry out routine inspections and respond to consumer complaints as part of the government's effort to protect consumers and ensure compliance with pricing regulations.
