Dutch airports report growth in passengers and cargo

ORANJESTAD – The Netherlands' five largest airports handled more passengers and cargo during the second quarter of 2026. According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), 21.2 million passengers traveled through the airports, a 2.3% increase compared with the same period last year.

Air cargo recorded even stronger growth, rising 15.4% to 53,200 tons.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport accounted for 86.5% of all passenger traffic. Meanwhile, the conflict in the Middle East led to a 43% decline in flights to the region, increasing demand for direct flights between Europe and Asia.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport posted the largest increase in passenger traffic (+6.5%), while Maastricht Aachen Airport recorded the fastest growth in flight movements (+13.8%).

Average seat occupancy on passenger flights increased to 83.4%, up from 80.3% a year earlier.
