Vrolijk(MEP) : Government still lacks long-term waste strategy

ORANJESTAD – Parliamentarian Edgard Vrolijk says that while Aruba's National Cleanup Day was a positive initiative to raise public awareness, the government still lacks a long-term and structural plan for waste management.

According to Vrolijk, nearly two years into its term, the AVP-FUTURO government has yet to present a concrete plan to modernise Serlimar or introduce a permanent solution for processing waste. He argues that the current temporary solution at Sero Teishi continues to affect nearby residents and harm the environment.

Vrolijk also criticised the lack of enforcement against illegal dumping. He noted that although the law allows fines of up to Afl. 10,000, authorities are not enforcing the regulations strictly enough. He believes only stronger enforcement combined with a long-term strategy will solve Aruba's waste problem.
