Dowers: Public safety behind North Coast road access plan

ORANJESTAD – Justice Minister Arthur Dowers says public safety is the main reason behind the decision to regulate access to the back road along Aruba's North Coast. In an interview with Noticiacla, he said the measure is intended to ensure that police, ambulances and other emergency services can always reach the area without delay.

Dowers also confirmed that the decision to close the road was made without prior consultation with the Ministry of Justice, a situation he described as regrettable.

The minister stressed that the area will not be completely closed. Recreational activities will still be permitted, but under stricter controls to reduce safety risks.

According to Dowers, responsibility for the measure lies with the Ministry of Public Works, while the official access road must remain open at all times to guarantee emergency access. He added that the Ministry of Justice will provide legal advice if necessary, but emphasized that public safety remains the government's top priority.
