ORANJESTAD — Aruba's Department of Integration, Management and Admission of Foreigners (DIMAS) has reiterated that the suspension of first-time regular work permit applications for foreign workers remains in effect under the policy of Justice Minister Arthur Dowers.
The clarification follows confusion among businesses and residents who believed the conclusion of the Hunto pa Progreso program meant applications had reopened. DIMAS stressed that the program's completion does not lift the suspension.
However, specific professional exemptions remain available under the Addendum to the Admission Handbook. These include highly educated professionals, hotel managers, chefs and kitchen staff, specialized technicians, IT professionals, education and healthcare workers, accountants, bakers, butchers and workers on qualifying short-term construction projects.
DIMAS emphasized that exemptions are subject to specific occupations and conditions. Being included on the exemption list does not guarantee permit approval.
All applications must comply with Aruba's Admission and Expulsion Ordinance (LTU) and applicable immigration procedures.
Businesses are advised to verify eligibility before recruiting foreign workers and avoid relying on unconfirmed information. The suspension will remain in place until the government officially announces a policy change.
