ORANJESTAD — FIFA President Gianni Infantino attended the official launch of the first of seven artificial football pitches in Aruba on Wednesday, November 4. The project is a collaboration between FIFA and the Aruban Football Federation (AVB), supported by USD 5.3 million from the FIFA Forward Programme.
The initiative, developed over four years, aims to improve Aruba's football infrastructure, particularly given the island's dry climate, which makes maintaining natural grass pitches difficult.
Two artificial pitches are scheduled for installation in 2026, with the remaining five expected to be completed in 2027. The project will also support smaller football clubs and encourage greater female participation.
During his visit, Infantino thanked AVB officials and Sports Minister Gerlien Croes for their support.
FIFA also highlighted two mini-pitches inaugurated in June at Boegoeroei and Pos Chikito, with three additional facilities planned. Aruba is also expected to receive 300 pairs of football boots through FIFA's Boots for All initiative.
The investment complements AVB's youth development programme, which launched the Caribbean's first FIFA Talent Academy in April 2025.
"Together, we are working to transform dreams into reality and bring hope and opportunity to girls and boys across the island," Infantino stated.
