ORANJESTAD — Aruba's Public Prosecutor's Office and Police Force have launched an investigation into several breath alcohol testing devices used during drunk-driving enforcement operations.
The investigation follows an internal inspection that identified possible irregularities in how the devices calculate test results and whether they comply with legal requirements.
As a precaution, the affected devices have been temporarily withdrawn from service. External experts are assisting in determining the nature and extent of the problem, including possible consequences for criminal proceedings.
Authorities emphasize that no conclusions can yet be drawn regarding the validity of previous test results or their implications for individual criminal cases.
Meanwhile, police will continue conducting alcohol-related traffic checks using alternative investigative methods. Driving under the influence remains a criminal offense.
