Dutch government extends Landspakketten by two years through 2029
THE HAGUE — The Dutch government is making it possible to extend cooperation between the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten under the Landspakketten reform programs by another two years. The mutual arrangement underpinning the agreements can now continue through the end of 2029.
The four countries have been working together since 2021 on structural reforms aimed at strengthening economic, financial and administrative resilience and improving education.
Earlier this year, an independent evaluation committee concluded that the reforms require more time to be implemented effectively. The Dutch government has therefore decided to allow the cooperation framework to be extended by two years.
To finance the additional period, €30.9 million will be shifted from the 2027 budget to 2028 and 2029. Of that amount, €21.3 million will go to 2028 and €9.6 million to 2029.
The decision means the Landspakketten, which had been approaching their scheduled end, will remain the framework for reform and cooperation within the Kingdom through at least 2029.
