ORANJESTAD — Thirty-two years ago, Alexandra Ochoa, Miss Aruba 1993-1994, represented Aruba at Miss International 1994 in Japan and achieved a historic result: first runner-up among 50 participating countries.

It was Aruba’s first participation in Miss International. Ochoa stood out in a gown designed by Jaime Arango, reached the top 15 and ultimately finished as first runner-up. Miss Greece won the crown, while Miss Spain placed second runner-up.

The result caused great excitement in Aruba. Radio presenter Ruben “Scorpio” Garcia was among those who announced the news, and Ochoa received a warm welcome upon her return to the island.

A year earlier, Ochoa had been crowned Miss Aruba 1993 at the Aruba Entertainment Center during an event organized by Star Promotions. That title paved the way for one of Aruba’s most notable international pageant results.
