ORANJESTAD — With intense heat expected to continue in Aruba, AHATA’s Environmental Committee has prepared educational material to help employers and employees reduce the risks associated with heat exposure.
The guidance recommends that employers take the hottest hours of the day into account when scheduling work, ensure drinking water is always available and provide opportunities for short breaks in shaded or cool areas. Rotating tasks is also advised to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Workers are encouraged to recognize warning signs such as dizziness, nausea, weakness, unusual fatigue and muscle cramps. If someone develops one or more of these symptoms, the activity should stop, the person should be moved to a cool area and should not be left alone. Immediate help should be sought if symptoms are severe or do not improve.
The material was prepared with support from DVG and CMO, with practical input from Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort.
