DVG: Proper pet care is every owner’s responsibility

ORANJESTAD — Providing proper care for a pet is not a favor, but a responsibility. A responsible owner should ensure that an animal has good-quality food, clean water, protection from sun, rain and wind, enough room to move and veterinary care when needed.

Under Aruba’s dog welfare regulations, lack of water, hunger, untreated injuries or insufficient space can indicate that an animal’s basic needs are not being met.

Owners should monitor their pets daily and pay attention to changes in appetite, weight, behavior, skin, coat or movement. If an animal is suffering, the situation should be reported to the competent authorities.

Protecting animals is a shared responsibility, and proper daily care is essential to their wellbeing.
