Dutch Lottery appeals case involving Curaçao trust office
WILLEMSTAD — Nederlandse Loterij is continuing its legal battle against illegal online gambling sites, focusing again on the role of Curaçao-based trust office DECC.
A Dutch court previously ruled that there was insufficient evidence that DECC and its directors knew they were providing services to an operator illegally targeting the Dutch gambling market. Nederlandse Loterij is appealing that part of the ruling.
The lottery says DECC also appears in investigations involving gambling sites Qbet and Skyhills and argues that trust offices have a responsibility to investigate their clients and activities.
The cases could have broader implications for Curaçao by clarifying when local trust offices and representatives can be held liable for foreign gambling companies operating through Curaçao-based structures.
