WILLEMSTAD — Dutch support vessel Zr.Ms. Pelikaan has departed Curaçao for La Guaira, Venezuela, carrying more than 220,000 litres of drinking water for areas affected by devastating earthquakes in late June.
The mission follows a request from Venezuelan authorities. The vessel is transporting 70,000 litres in onboard tanks and another 150,000 litres in bottled water.
Dutch Defence in the Caribbean had already provided emergency assistance following the earthquakes, including drinking water, food and medical supplies.
Providing emergency aid in the Caribbean region is one of Defence’s core responsibilities.
