Dutch petrol price hits record, but motorists keep driving

AMSTERDAM — The recommended price for a litre of petrol in the Netherlands has reached a record €2.668, driven mainly by renewed escalation in the Iran war and growing tightness in global energy markets.
Experts say many motorists will continue driving despite the higher cost because they depend on their cars for commuting. Around one in four drivers is already experiencing financial pressure because of fuel prices.
Prices are not expected to fall quickly. Even if tensions ease, restoring global supply could take months. Diesel currently averages €2.640 per litre, still below its previous record.
