ORANJESTAD – Today, September 1, Prime Minister Mike Eman celebrates his birthday, offering a moment to congratulate the country’s leader while also reflecting on a political career that has played an important role in Aruba’s modern history for more than two decades.

Michiel Godfried “Mike” Eman was born in Oranjestad on September 1, 1961, into a family deeply connected to Aruban politics. He is the brother of Henny Eman, Aruba’s first Prime Minister after Status Aparte. Mike Eman, however, went on to build his own political career and over time became one of the most prominent figures within the AVP and Aruban politics in general.

Eman served as Prime Minister from 2009 until 2017. After several years outside government, he made a political comeback and returned to office as Prime Minister of Aruba on March 28, 2025.

During his years in leadership, his name has been closely linked to projects and debates involving infrastructure, the economy, sustainability, renewable energy, urban development and Aruba’s position within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

His political journey has not been without controversy or opposition. Like any leader who has occupied a prominent position for many years, Eman has experienced periods of strong support, criticism, electoral defeat and ultimately a return to power. His career has therefore been marked not only by longevity, but also by political resilience.

Eman is currently in an important phase of his political career. He has indicated that he intends to hand over the leadership of the AVP and plans to step down as Prime Minister at the beginning of 2027, opening the way for a political transition and a new generation of leadership.

Regardless of political preference, Mike Eman is a figure who has already left a significant mark on Aruban politics. His name is tied to several chapters of the country’s recent history and to decisions that have generated both support and public debate.

Today, however, is an occasion to set political disagreements aside for a moment and recognize the person behind the public office: an Aruban who has dedicated a large part of his life to politics and public service.

From Noticiacla, we congratulate Prime Minister Mike Eman on his birthday and wish him health, strength and wisdom for the road ahead.

Happy birthday, Prime Minister Mike Eman.
