Cuida Aruba collects 102 tons of waste as initiative expands toward Long-Term Cleanup Strategy

ORANJESTAD – The second edition of Cuida Aruba concluded with 102 tons of waste collected and 26 neighborhood locations cleaned, while CEDE ARUBA is preparing to expand the initiative from a monthly cleanup campaign into a broader platform for environmental action, education and awareness.

Following an evaluation of the first edition in July, organizers adjusted the logistics. Instead of nearly 26 collection points, six strategically located sites were used across the districts. According to CEDE ARUBA, this allowed more containers to be placed at each location and created a more efficient flow.

Cuida Aruba is also promoting the permanent Waste Disposal Zone in Barcadera, where Aruba residents can dispose of waste free of charge from Monday through Sunday, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., except on public holidays.

During the latest campaign, CMO, DOW, Bureau City Inspector and Serlimar Aruba worked together to clean 26 locations in different neighborhoods. For the next edition, scheduled for September 26, volunteers, companies, schools, organizations and sports clubs are expected to become actively involved again.

CEDE ARUBA is also developing cuidaaruba.com with the goal of turning Cuida Aruba into a permanent platform built around three elements: promotion of the Barcadera disposal facility, monthly neighborhood cleanup campaigns and a monthly “Baki den Bario” waste collection initiative.

Future efforts will place greater emphasis on waste separation, education, awareness and responsible waste management.
