French troops train in Curaçao to strengthen military cooperation

WILLEMSTAD – A French military platoon from Martinique has completed a training exercise in Curaçao aimed at strengthening cooperation and improving the ability of regional military units to operate together.

The troops are part of the 2nd Company of the 33rd Marine Infantry Regiment (33 RIMa), based at Fort Desaix in Martinique.

During their stay in Curaçao, the French platoon trained alongside the boat platoon and Curaçao military personnel from CURMIL. Exercises included amphibious skills, transferring between vessels at different speeds and conducting landings from the water.

The training concluded with a scenario focused on movement and rapid withdrawal. Together with CURMIL, the troops also trained at the former Sint Elisabeth Hospital (SEHOS), practicing tactical skills for operations in urban environments.

Organizers said the joint training helps strengthen ties between military partners in the Caribbean through the exchange of knowledge and experience.

The cooperation is intended to improve their ability to operate jointly and to support security and stability in the region.
