Dolly approaches northern Lesser Antilles but likely to weaken
MIAMI - Tropical Storm Dolly continues moving rapidly westward with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour.
At 5:00 a.m., the system was located about 1,840 kilometers east of the islands and was moving at 39 kilometers per hour. The northern Lesser Antilles include islands such as Sint Maarten, Anguilla, Saba, Sint Eustatius, St. Kitts, Antigua and Guadeloupe.
Dolly or its remnants are expected to approach the region this weekend. The storm will likely weaken into a tropical wave before arriving. No coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect.
Heavy rain could affect the islands from late Saturday into Sunday, possibly causing flash flooding in higher terrain. Rainfall may then spread to the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola on Sunday and Monday.
