Venezuela proposes regular sea route to ABC islands for chicken and egg exports

ORANJESTAD – Venezuela’s National Poultry Federation (Fenavi) is proposing the creation of a regular ferry-style maritime route between Venezuela and Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao to export chicken meat and eggs.

Fenavi president Francisco Tagliapietra said the country’s poultry sector is growing at an average annual rate of around 8% and could reach 1.5 million tons of production per year within three years if the trend continues.

According to him, the industry already has the technology and skilled workforce needed to compete internationally, but packaging and logistics still need to be adapted to international standards before large-scale exports can begin.

Fenavi sees the ABC islands as a natural nearby market, but says a frequent and reliable maritime connection will be essential to make exports viable.
